Seven Quilts for Seven Sisters
The Seven Quilts for Seven Sisters performance group are noted for their engaging programs combining heartwarming tales with lovely singing and brilliant quilts which tell the joys of sisterhood and the trials of slave life and how quilting helps them cope. The "seven sisters" are originally of the Williams family of Clayton, New Jersey. Their quilt show, "A Stitch In Time", travels back to the old south and days of slavery in a performance featuring song, dance, history, stories, skits and quilts. The seven sisters are dedicated to teaching and entertaining audiences about the practical craft of quilt-making and how it flourished in early African American slave life, which in turn, helped to transform this common craft into a true art form across America.
