St. John AME Zion Church
St. John AME Zion Church is a member of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, a Methodist denomination, organized in 1796 in New York City. Some of the early notable A.M.E. Zion members included Frederick Douglass, Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman and Paul Robeson. In 1865, the St. John AME Zion Church was established in Lakewood, New Jersey to meet the spiritual and social needs of its African American community. The building in which the congregation is housed has been reported to being one of the oldest structures in the community.

Manitou Park School
This one-room schoolhouse was built in 1929 to serve the largest African-American community in Ocean County outside of Lakewood, New Jersey. It is the only public building in the Manitou Park community with historic ties to the early-twentieth century black community settlement in Berkeley Township.
